Arsenal have confirmed that four of their senior players, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Willian and Alex Ranarson, have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus before the Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.
For this reason, the club said, Aubameyang and Lacazette missed their first game of the season against Brentford last Friday.
Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 2-0 by the newly promoted side in their first game of the Premier League season and had to do without the strikers.
The club has now confirmed that its top stars have been banned by COVID-19 and Willians and Runarsson have also tested positive.
Arsenal are now hoping that Aubameyang and Willian will return to face Chelsea while Lacazette and Ronarson have been left out.
In an update posted on Arsenal’s official website, the club confirmed Aubameyang’s position, writing: “Oba has tested positive for Covid-19 and was not available for last Friday’s match in Brentford.
“Auba is now negative for the Covid-19 test, is fine and is following all protocols to return to play. He will be back in training and will be evaluated before Sunday’s game.”
Arsenal added: “His health and fitness will be monitored and evaluated before Sunday’s match.”
“As part of the Premier League protocol, all members of our first team and support staff continue to be regularly tested for COVID-19,” the club said.
